About
With over $100M in construction experience Founder Steve Perry has a long and varied background in the industry. Brought up from a young age in a family-owned real estate firm, he had the opportunity to get experience renovating old homes in "wholesale" volume.
While most kids were mowing grass for extra money on weekends, Steve was walking prospective properties with his father and learning the trades from his many crews and tradesmen. By a very early age young Steve was fully competent in multiple trades including carpentry, plastering and drywall, cabinet making, painting and window glazing.
In college Steve had the benefit of attending three different schools: Western State College of Colorado (WSC), Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) and The Boston Architectural Center (BAC). The latter is a highly specialized school of architecture where the students have the unusual opportunity to work in an architecturally related job setting while attending architecture school at night. There he was acknowledged by having one of his design projects featured on the front and back cover of the school's promotional brochure. And there he also learned about the principles of design and construction.
After college, in 1988 he founded J. S. Perry & Co. where the emphasis was on "Fine Home Building and Additions". Providing both design and construction services, J. S. Perry & Co. established a niche in the market for adaptive design-build with spectacular carpentry and millwork. If you had an important project loaded with millwork and details, a past client would say "you had better call them".
Steve was approached and hired by an old Missouri construction and development firm. This firm was founded in 1949 and has the best name in Central Missouri. During his eight year career in Missouri he realized a vast new experience in commercial design and construction. While there he helped spearhead the company's development program, helped to create the Department of Design-Build and later ran the production division where he presided over the Departments of Project Support, Estimating, Design-Build and Construction.
The decision was made to restart J. S. Perry & Co. and provide residential construction services in Florida as a general contractor.
